(From the Todd Akin campaign)
In news reports this week, Claire McCaskill's campaign claimed that McCaskill's finances are "separate from her husband's" which is in direct contrast with statements from Claire McCaskill herself who called the notion that she wouldn't share everything with her husband "pretty archaic." McCaskill's campaign is desperate to get away from the fact that McCaskill's companies have received roughly $40 million in taxpayer money in the last six years.
"McCaskill's campaign may want to ask Claire McCaskill more questions about her finances since they are now saying things in direct conflict with what Claire McCaskill herself has said," said Ryan Hite, spokesman for the Akin Campaign. "McCaskill says they share everything, and that any suggestion otherwise is 'archaic.' It sounds like she has an archaic campaign. The fact remains that Claire McCaskill's companies have received almost $40 million in taxpayer money in less than six years. Her wealth is based off big government programs and Missouri taxpayers deserve to know the truth. If McCaskill wants to prove otherwise, she should simply release her husband's tax returns."

“[McCaskill's] finances are separate from her husband’s, so she has no interest in any of these businesses.” (Newsweek, October 15, 2012 LINK)
Claire McCaskill in 2004:
“My husband and I are a team,” Claire McCaskill said. “We are married, and we share everything – assets, children and a house. The money I’ve loaned to my campaign is my money. My family is supportive of my efforts. Some have implied that the assets of my family don’t belong to me. That notion is pretty archaic.” (St. Louis Post-Dispatch, July 18, 2004)
