(From Fourth District Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler)
Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-Mo.), Chairwoman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, released the following statement in regards to the Obama Administration’s recent transfer of four detainees from U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia:
“At least 30 percent of former Guantanamo Bay Detainees are confirmed to have reengaged or suspected of reengaging in terrorist activities after transfer. President Obama, despite clear understanding of Congressional intent, gave four more individuals the opportunity to resume their fight against American ideals. I find this irresponsible and dangerous.
Even more disturbing are the President’s plans to transfer more detainees and further endanger the American people. It is unfathomable to me the President would choose to transfer the likes of Osama Bin Laden’s security guards or others trained by Al Qaeda. I urge this Administration in its final days to bear in mind potential consequences of his decision and to not make any more transfers. The security of American families and military personnel are at stake."
