The National Rifle Association released the following statement today regarding Walmart's decision to change its firearms and ammunition policies:
"The strongest defense of freedom has always been our free-market economy.
It is shameful to see Walmart succumb to the pressure of the anti-gun elites.
Lines at Walmart will soon be replaced by lines at other retailers who are more supportive of America’s fundamental freedoms.
The truth is Walmart’s actions today will not make us any safer. Rather than place the blame on the criminal, Walmart has chosen to victimize law-abiding Americans.
Our leaders must be willing to approach the problems of crime, violence and mental health with sincerity and honesty."

WTH does Walmart actions have to do with America's fundamental freedoms? Anyone can buy ammo a thousand different places, so what if they can't buy at Walmart? Nothing but the same ol' squat. Relax, let go of your paranoia - nobody is scheming to take your guns. Find something else to worry yourself about.
Walmart doesn’t have to be concerned about “elites”. They have to focus on customer perception.

I'm sure a free-market economy is helpful, but the strongest defense of freedom is an educated electorate that can recognize propaganda and not fall for it.

See #1 above. Then look up "buzz words," like "anti-gun elites," and their use in propaganda.

Maybe so, but I doubt it. Plus, a lot of people will now feel more comfortable working and shopping at Walmart without seeing strangers walking around the store carrying firearms. As for the implication that Walmart doesn't support "America's fundamental freedoms," see #1 above.

Walmart's actions may or may not make us any safer, but they can't hurt, and they might help break the stranglehold the NRA has on our politics--which actually would make us safer. What Walmart's actions are saying is that they are choosing to not play a role in the next mass shooting; they want no part of it, and I hope they're not alone in this.
Victimize" is a carefully chosen buzz word here. If you're a law-abiding citizen, has Walmart victimized you? Not me. About the closest Walmart has come to making me a "victim" is by continually changing the location of frozen egg noodles in the cold cases so that I have to hunt for them, every time.

Couldn't agree more, and they might be able to actually do that if the NRA would stop shilling for the gun industry, gather up all their propaganda, and go back to being the kind of organization they were decades ago, before they sold out for political power and the big bucks.
Most of these shooters are Law Abiding Citizens until they decide to pick up an assault rifle and start killing people. What do you expect from Walmart, people were killed in their house.

Simply a well thought out expression of opinion. This is the type of dialogue America needs to be having if we’re ever going to have a solution.

Has anyone ever stopped to wonder what type of people feel the need to carry a weapon into a store? Seriously, the ones who are wanting to shoot up a place is not that different from the person who straps the gun inside their shirt. If it weren't so sad, it would be funny.

While I support the stand Walmart has taken, I wonder how much desire of positive PR motivated the decision.
I think it’s a good thing to have people with a concealed weapon pretty much everywhere. They may be able to take out the shooter.
Lefties are scared of guns. And call people names. Very rational and mature group of people. Their fear is kind of entertaining.

While I support gun owner rights, I also support the rights of Walmart (or any other business) to decide what they will or will not sell. Some people will gritch about it, but at the end of the day, unless they are a shareholder of Walmart stock, it does not matter. Walmart is exercising it's right to decide what it thinks is best for it's business and I am just fine with that.
