Pierce City man held without bond for 1988 cold case murder, arraignment set for Tuesday

Lawrence Timmons, 65, Pierce City, will be arraigned Tuesday morning in Lawrence County Circuit Court on one count of first degree murder and six felony counts of unlawful possession of a firearm.

Timmons is charged with the 1988 cold case murder of Cynthia Smith, who was last seen alive in a Mount Vernon. Her body was subsequently discovered in a Pierce City cemetery.

A Lawrence County grand jury indicted Timmons last week after new information provided by a private investigator led to the evidence that enabled charges to be filed.

Timmons is being held without bond while awaiting trial.
