Joplin Mayor Gary Shaw offered encouraging words in this morning's COVID-19 briefing. He acknowledged that everyone is anxious during these times when most people are staying at home.
"We must remain diligent. We're getting close to the finish line," Shaw said, "but doing something crazy could mess up the whole thing."
Shaw said Joplin officials, the governor and health officials are looking at plans for reopening "when the time is right."
The actions the city has taken were not taken because of fear or pressure from anyone, Shaw said.
City Health Director Dan Pekarek said two people were under quarantine, one still has the virus and six have recovered.
Emergency Management Director Keith Stammer offered advice on what to do in case of a tornado, including recommendations on how to deal with being in a public shelter.
