Scott Bailey, who guided the Lamar High School football team to seven consecutive state championships will return to the R-1 School District for the 2023-2024 school year.
The R-1 Board of Education voted last week to hire Bailey to teach physical education and in-school suspension.
The Lamar Democrat reports that Bailey will also serve as an assistant to head football coach Jared Beshore, who played on two of the teams Bailey coached to the state title. Beshore also coached the Tigers to a state championship in 2020, as well as second place finishes the past two years.
Bailey left the district after 2018, was head coach for one year at Jefferson City, then served as an assistant coach at Webb City.
