Searches of Joplin, Webb City homes net large amounts of fentanyl, meth, lead to arrest

Fentanyl trafficking charges were filed against a Joplin man following searches of homes in Joplin and Webb City.

Searches of the residences of Milan Alexander, 42, Thursday uncovered large amounts of fentanyl and methamphetamine, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Alexander was located by the Newton County Sheriff's Office and arrested by the Seneca Police Department following a pursuit that began with vehicles and ended on foot.

The allegations against Alexander were spelled out in the affidavit:

On or about February 2, 2023, detectives obtained two Jasper County, Missouri, Circuit Court search warrants for the residences of ALEXANDER. ALEXANDER is known to utilize two separate residences located in Joplin, Missouri, and Webb City, Missouri, both locations are within Jasper County and the Western District of Missouri.

On February 2, 2023, surveillance was conducted on the address in Joplin, Missouri. At approximately 13:20 hours, ALEXANDER was observed leaving the residence in a dark blue Dodge Charger vehicle.

At approximately 13:55 hours, detectives arrived at the residence to execute a search warrant. The residence was cleared with no persons being found inside the residence.

In the living room, in the center console of the couch, detectives located and seized a loaded Glock 26 handgun, serial number ADRA530. Located in a kitchen drawer beside the oven were five bundles of a gray powder substance and one bundle of a white powder substance. The bundles of gray powder substance weighed approximately 4.3 grams, including the packaging. The bundle of white powder substance weighed approximately 1.1 grams, including packaging.

The bundles were later field tested and the gray powder bundles tested positive for the presence of fentanyl and the bundle of white powder tested positive for the presence of cocaine.

Detectives searched the laundry room. Inside of the clothes dryer, detectives located two backpacks and a single strap sling style bag. One of the backpacks was white and black in color. Inside of the white and black backpack, detectives located additional multiple bags containing white and gray powder substances. The following bags were located inside of this backpack:

a plastic bag containing approximately 217.5 grams of a gray powder substance that field tested positive for fentanyl;

a plastic bag containing 197.7 grams of a gray powder substance that field tested positive for fentanyl;

a plastic bag containing 146.6 grams of a gray powder substance that field tested positive for fentanyl;

a plastic bag containing 83.6 grams of a gray powder substance that field tested positive for fentanyl;

a plastic bag containing 71.3 grams of a white powdery substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine, a plastic bag containing 48.2 grams of a white powdery substance that field tested positive for cocaine, and a plastic bag containing 22.7 grams of a white powdery substance that field tested positive for cocaine base.

Also located inside of this bag were two digital scales, a large white hard plastic container with a gray powder substance that detectives believed to be a cutting agent, multiple small clear bags, and spoons.

The single strap bag located inside of the dryer contained multiple credit cards in the name of ALEXANDER.

In an upstairs bedroom, detectives located and seized a Mini Draco 7.62 caliber rifle bearing serial number ROA22PG3816 and two fully loaded magazines.

During the search of this residence, detectives located multiple items of mail in the name of ALEXANDER and this address. Detectives also located multiple family-style photographs on the walls of the residence that pictured ALEXANDER.

Detectives also located a cardboard box containing 750 rounds of 9mm ammunition and a box containing 320 rounds of7.62 ammunition.

In total, detectives located approximately 649 grams of a gray powder substance that field tested positive for fentanyl in ALEXANDER's residence located in Joplin, Missouri.

Based on my training and experience, I believe such an amount is consistent with someone who is distributing fentanyl, rather than a personal use amount of the controlled substance.

Detectives then went to the address in Webb City, Missouri, to execute that search warrant. In the residence, detectives located multiple items of mail in the name of ALEXANDER. In the living room, detectives located a duffle bag containing six firearms.

During the execution of the search warrants, attempts were made to locate and arrest ALEXANDER. The vehicle description and license plate were given to area law enforcement agencies.

Deputies with the Newton County, Missouri, Sheriff's Office located ALEXANDER's vehicle and attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle fled from law enforcement and a pursuit ensued. Tire deflation devices were used by the Seneca, Missouri, Police Department in an effort to disable the vehicle. ALEXANDER's vehicle became disabled, and ALEXANDER fled on foot.

After an extensive search of the area, and the use of a law enforcement K-9, ALEXANDER was located hiding in a shed.

I hope this case will be taken over by or turned over for prosecution in Federal court. By my calculation, 1.4 pounds of fentanyl was found during these searches.
