Newtonia parents charged with abusing 3-year-old, 1-year-old

The Newton County Prosecuting Attorney's office filed two counts of child abuse against a Newtonia couple today.

Bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety for Zacheria James Creson (DOB 2003) and Mindy J. Johnson (DOB 2001).

From the probable cause statement:

On May 8th, 2025, Deputies were dispatched to 430 Broadway Street in Newtonia in response to a report of child abuse. Newton County Central Dispatch informed that a 1-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy were allegedly being abused by their parents. 

Upon arrival, contact was made with the reporting party, who provided Deputies with video recordings of the alleged abuse involving the juveniles, Vl and V2. Mindy Johnson was identified as the mother of the children. 

In one recording, Ms. Johnson was seen hitting V2, the 1-year-old, twice while she was in bed. Ms. Johnson could also be heard yelling at Vl, the 3-year-old boy, telling him that it was his responsibility to watch his younger sister, V2. 

Additionally, Mindy was present when Zacheria Creson was seen striking V2 with a plastic hanger and yet she failed to intervene. 

Recordings were made of the abuse by Wl who provided the videos and identified the actions, and individuals involved during an interview with Newton County Detectives during a separate interview. According to the videos, the abuse occurred between March 17th, 2025 andMarch 31st, 2025.
