Joplin man charged with stealing $6,385 in roofing scam

The Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney's office charged a Joplin man with stealing in connection with a roofing scam in which he allegedly stole $6,385.

According to the probable cause statement, William Blake Cagle (DOB 1984) entered into a contract March 25 with Tracey Thompson, Joplin, to do a roofing job.

From the probable cause statement:

On 3/25/2025, William Cagle received money (211.00) that was sent from the victim Tracey Thompson using CashApp for a roofing job after a contract had been entered by both parties.

Thompson also sent money on 4/2/2025 in the amounts of $2000.00 and $4174.00 for a total of $6385.00.

Cagle did not order the materials for the roofing job as promised and never completed any work on the roof as the contract stated. Cagle has since changed his phone number and has not contacted Thompson or returned any of the money that was sent by Thompson using CashApp.

All money transfers reported by Thompson that were sent to Cagle were verified after reviewing the information received from CashApp records for Cagle's CashApp account.
