Carthage man charged with raping, sodomizing fiancee's sister, ICE notified

The Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney's office charged a Carthage man today with raping and sodomizing his fiancee's sister.

According to online Jasper County Circuit Court records, Wilson Romeo Escobar-Gayton (DOB 1998), who came to the U. S. from Guatemala, is being held without bond and ICE has been notified.

A note on the probable cause statement recommended holding Escobar-Gayton without bond.

Escobar-Gaytan has no ties to Carthage except for his fiance (sister of V I). Escobar-Gaytan advised all of his family was in Guatemala and stated he did not have friends in Carthage.

When asked if Escobar-Gaytan had somewhere else to stay besides the residence of the victim, Escobar-Gaytan stated "no."

Once on scene I contacted V I. VI advised WI was in the back of the house with suspect, identified as Wilson Escobar-Gaytan.

While speaking with V I, I observed WI walk Escobar-Gaytan onto the front porch. I observed Escobar-Gaytan have his head hanging down, eyes looking at the ground and when he stepped onto the porch, he placed his hands behind his back as if he were going to be handcuffed. While another officer stood with Escobar-Gaytan, I spoke with V I and asked if she could explain what had happened.

V I advised around the date of April 20th, 2025, she was raped by Escobar-Gaytan. V I stated she exited the bathroom in her home when Escobar-Gaytan grabbed her and pulled her into his bedroom. V I advised Escobar-Gaytan tried to put his arm over her and tried to kiss her and she told him "no." V I stated she tried to move away so Escobar-Gaytan could not kiss her, but he grabbed her face and kissed her.

The next part of the statement describes the alleged rape. A second sexual assault occurred about a month later, according to the probable cause statement.

V I stated it was at night time and she had gone outside to check on the dogs. V I stated Escobar-Gaytan told her he wanted to apologize and give her a present. V I stated Escobar-Gaytan told her to come to his bedroom, but she told him "no" bringing up the initial assault to him.

V 1 stated Escobar-Gaytan had been texting her sending her photos of tight clothing (jeans, crop tops, etc.) telling her she would look good in them, etc. V I advised later Escobar-Gaytan opened his bedroom door and told her to come inside and she told him "no." V I stated she went to the restroom because she was getting nervous but was too afraid to tell her mom about everything.

V I stated when she left the restroom, Escobar-Gaytan grabbed her around the waist and pulled her into the bedroom

The statement describes an anal rape.

WI stated when she confronted Escobar-Gaytan about the incidents on 07/20/2025 he only stated "please forgive me, please forgive me".
