(From the Newton County Sheriff's Office)The Newton County Sheriff’s Office recognizes Sergeant Nick Booe as the Deputy of the Quarter for the Second Quarter of 2025.
On May 15th, 2025, at approximately 8:58am while near 32nd and Connecticut Ave, Sergeant Nick Booe observed an oncoming vehicle traveling slower than other vehicles, causing a traffic problem.
Sgt. Booe attempted to determine what the issue was. It appeared that the driver of the vehicle was slumped over at the steering wheel. Sgt. Booe notified dispatch and turned his vehicle around and attempted to conduct a traffic stop using the patrol car’s emergency equipment.
When the vehicle continued to roll, Sgt. Booe exited his vehicle and ran up to the rolling vehicle. Sgt. Booe was able to get the vehicle door open and got the vehicle stopped by placing the vehicle in park.
Sgt. Booe observed the driver appeared unconscious and was not responding. After a quick effort to revive the driver failed, Sgt. Booe removed the driver from the vehicle and placed him on the ground. Sgt. Booe began life saving measures by performing CPR.
Within a few seconds other first responders arrived to assist Sgt. Booe. By the time the driver was transported by ambulance he was able to talk to the first responders.
Later the driver contacted the Sheriff’s Office and spoke to Sgt. Booe. He explained that he was diagnosed as having a heart attack and thanked Sgt. Booe for helping him that day.
Sgt. Booe’s observations of the traffic on the roadway and his immediate actions not only saved the life of the driver of the vehicle but likely prevented a serious motor vehicle accident.
The Newton County Sheriff’s Office is proud to recognize Sergeant Nick Booe for this action and for his dedication to serving the citizens of Newton County.
We would also like to thank the Joplin Police Department, The Newton County Ambulance, METS Ambulance and the Joplin Fire Department for their quick response to assist Sgt. Booe during this incident.
