Registered lobbyists help former Neosho R-5 School Board member launch House campaign

Former Neosho R-5 Board of Education member Jonathan Russell's first disclosure report in his campaign for the Republican nomination for 160th District House of Representatives shows nearly half of his contribution total (not counting money he loaned to his campaign) came from registered lobbyists.

Russell is seeking the seat which is currently vacant following the resignation of Republican Ben Baker after President Donald Trump appointed him to a position with the U. S. Department of Agriculture. How long the post will remain vacant is unclear since Gov. Mike Kehoe seems to be in no hurry to schedule a special election.

Baker's term wasn't scheduled to end until January 2027.

In the disclosure report, which was filed Friday, Russell reported receiving $3,475, including his $1,000 loan from himself.

Among those contributing were registered lobbyists Kyna Iman and Sean Grove, each of whom chipped in with $500.

Russell also received $500 from Jerrod Hogan, Joplin, CEO of Own, Inc. and former Joplin police officer Brian Townsend, president and founder of Eagle 6 Training, Rogersville.

Compton CPA Group, Neosho, contributed $200.

Russell reported spending $559.31, leaving him with $2,915.69 in the bank.

Russell's treasurer is Victoria Myers-Ales, daughter of Newton County Republican chairman.

Controlled by Nick Myers and already committed to special interest groups. Sad.

This Russell guy cannot win, Nick Meyers already thinks he owns the state, especially Newton County.

I heard Chris Wright is running. Talk about an anti-lobbyist. We should rally behind Chris on the ticket in the primary to make sure this lobbyist wet-dream doesn't get in.

My two stand out memories of Jonathon Russell from working in Neosho schools.
1) he came to my school during a Title 1 night for kids and families . And took home pizza ( or 2?) meant to feed the kids. And 2) falling asleep during an intense board meeting and having to be corrected by another board member.

Sorry, big guy, it’s a no for me.

Aren’t those “lobbyists” from our neck of the woods? Talk about misleading. Kyna was the lobbyist for MSSU. Sean is JR’s fraternity brother.

Chris Wright will get 20% of the vote like always and embarrass himself.

Him getting elected would be the most disappointing outcome imaginable.

Does he have a family member running a barn/shed business out of Goodman?

So he's running as a Republican but backed by Democrats like Hogan and Townsend. Okay...
