Bill Clinton received a long, sustained standing ovation as he stepped up to the lectern to deliver the first of two highly-anticipated speeches at the Democratic National Convention.
"I love this," Clinton said, "and I thank you, but we have important work to do here tonight. I am here, first, to support Barack Obama; second, I'm here to warm up the crowd for Joe Biden, though as you will soon see, he doesn't need any help from me."
Clinton praised the campaign fought between his wife and Obama.
"That campaign generated so much heat, it increased global warming. In the end, my candidate didn't win, but I am really proud of the campaign she ran."
