Huff to speak to California Emergency Services Association in October

Joplin R-8 Superintendent C. J. Huff will serve as a keynote speaker at the California Emergency Services Association Conference Thursday, October 17, at the Hyatt Vineyard Creek Hotel in Santa Rosa, Calif. The following description is given of Huff on the conference website:

Leading in CrisisAfter one of the most devastating tornadoes on record destroyed a third of the town, Dr. C.J. Huff, Superintendent of Schools in Joplin, Missouri, led his community in an amazing effort to rebuild—transforming this disastrous tragedy into the town’s finest hour. Huff’s demonstrated leadership helped Joplin schools and the community literally emerge from the rubble in what has been called “A model for those who study resilience” by U.S. Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Thad Allen. Named one of People magazine’s 2011 heroes.
Huff's speech will come just one week before his assistant superintendent, Angie Besendorfer speaks in Phoenix.

Wow, Shouldn't they be here to Work for our future and not talk about the pass? This should also be done on their own time.

I thought Big Daddy said he was going to stay here with us commoners so we could go on our journey to Destination Ahead together. I'm hurt. Between that and not being invited to the big announcement on the 8th, I'm beginning to think he didn't really mean what he said about looking after our children together. I feel sadly used.

So do all these posts about the traveling dingleberrys er the leaders of the Joplin Miracle count as positive or negative posts?

If he is just posting the details, that means they are all positive posts. Unless the speeches are to be kept secret from the taxpayers citizens and students of Joplin. In that case they are clearly negative posts.

What do you want to bet he cries...who's paying for this? Doesn't he have work to do here in Joplin? I think this district could use a team builder or something for its teachers. Huff, focus on the here and now, not on getting more puplicity. This is wrong.

The district needs stronger unity in its teachers for sure, but the "team builder" needs to be in unifying our voices. We need to protest as a body, not as some individuals fighting for the group.

The district is the biggest mess I have ever seen. There is nothing good happening here. Our administration is egotistic, vengeful, and greedy, and the Board continues to back them completely. It will take years to rebuild a safe, constructive environment here. A new leader would have to do a needs assessment and be willing to slash wasteful spending and unnecessary jobs in order to support teaching staff and acquisition of materials. Discipline from upper administration down to students will have to be firm and consistent. High expectations will have to be set at all levels. It would take time, but each step would bring progress and confidence. As it stands now, there is no hope. We will hope that change will happen soon. Parents and teachers need to unite.

What the district needs is to get rid of these wasteful spenders that can't crawl off their high horses and return to "business as usual" in the school district. Yeah, we went through something I'd never wish on another school district. But look at all the others that have gone through something, too. If these "leaders" would focus on OUR schools and OUR city and not worry about padding their resumes, maybe they would realize our schools are in the worst state I have seen them in for years...
