John Jungmann new superintendent at Liberty

Former Monett superintendent John Jungmann, who turns 37 today, is the new superintendent of the Liberty School District.

Jungmann has served as assistant superintendent at Liberty for the past year after being in Monett for four years. He began his educational career as a teacher in the Lamar R-1 School District. Jungmann is a graduate of Lamar High School.

It probably is not included on his resume, but as a college student Jungmann worked for me as the sports editor of our short-lived weekly, the Lamar Press.

Jungmann came to Liberty with a solid foundation of what is the most important aspect in education.“In ten years at Monett, I learned that you put kids first in every decision you make,” Jungmann said. “When you are in education, you get pressure in a lot of different ways about how to spend resources, how to move your system forward, and why or why not to make change happen. If you put the interest of kids first in those decisions, you are typically not going to go wrong.“You also learn that change is hard, and it takes time, but it is necessary. Good educators, like we had there and we have here in Liberty, want the best for students. That is why I am excited to be part of this leadership team with this Board and this community. They have high expectations. High expectations drive results.”

I wish he'd come to Joplin, where the needs of the children seem to be placed way beneath the need of administrators to promote themselves.
