Rita Hunter to appeal sentence

Former Jasper County Public Administrator Rita Hunter, who was sentenced last week to one year and one day in federal prison after pleading guilty to document fraud,  will appeal that sentence, according ot a document filed today in U. S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri.

Mrs. Hunter, the wife of former Rep. Steve Hunter, R-Joplin, had also been charged with two counts of health care fraud, two counts of theft of public money, two additional counts of document fraud, two counts of Social Security fraud, and two counts of Medicaid fraud.

She is scheduled to report to prison August 1.
