Arraignment on tap for suspect in Avilla double murder

A Reeds man charged with two counts of first degree murder and two counts of armed criminal action in connection with the death of two people Sunday at an Avilla home, will be arraigned 8:15 a.m. Wednesday in Jasper County Circuit Court.

According to the probable cause statement, Kevin Clay Johnson, 24, told investigators he shot and killed Mason McClure, 34, and Nicole Hodges, 34, after McClure said the two had killed Johnson's girlfriend, 25-year-old Brylee O'Banion.

O'Banion's body was discovered Saturday in a ditch in Loma Linda.

At the time the murders took place, Johnson was free on bond while awaiting trial on charges of delivery of a controlled substance and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon.
