(From the Joplin Health Department)Recent inclement weather has caused the Joplin Health Department to cancel the upcoming date of the second dose of COVID vaccine for those who participated in the Drive Through Clinic with the National Guard on January 29 at the Joplin Athletic Complex.
Individuals will still receive their second dose of vaccine, however it will not be available on Thursday, February 18 or Friday, Feb. 19, as originally planned.
Joplin Health Department staff and National Guard members are calling individuals to notify them of the date cancellation and to assure them they will be receiving the second dose in the near future.
Due to vaccine shipment delays caused by weather conditions, a new date has not been established. Individuals will be contacted with that information as soon as the details are determined.
Calls will come from various telephone numbers, including the City of Joplin and numbers associated with the National Guard.
“Because we have numerous callers to reach our 1,000 patients, there is not just one phone number people can watch for in their caller identification,” said Ryan Talken, Director of the Health Department. “We will leave a message on their phones if there is no answer, so we remind people who went through the Drive Thru Clinic on January 29 to ensure that they have established their voice mail system and it is not full. We will also have to contact them again once we’ve set the date on their second dose clinic.”
Talken noted that this second dose clinic has been cancelled by the Governor’s office due to the weather and a delay in vaccine shipments.
“If the second dose is not given at exactly 21 days after the first dose, it’s fine. They received the Pfizer vaccine, which requires at least three weeks, or 21 days, between the two doses. However, there is no maximum interval between the first and second doses for either vaccine.”

That means the first dose is completely worthless. You have to receive both doses within a certain time frame for them to be effective.
NOt so, but still incompetent health dept as they could shuttle them through the ARmory or gym of shut down schools or muni auditorium or the large buildings out by Sams. Joplin cannot wiggle their way out of a wet paper bag. McDonald hick county is giving its residents shots this week at a pretty good rate. They have their act together and maybe Joplin and Neosho should ask them for help. Dimwits leading some counties like republicans in Texas leading their souls.
This does not make the first dose worthless. If it is given within the next three weeks or so, it will be just as effective.
