Joplin woman who was victim of savage beating dies at area hospital, autopsy set for today


Charges are expected to be upgraded for a Joplin man after a 63-year-old woman who was the victim of a savage beating January 18 died Sunday at a Joplin hospital.

In a news release issued this morning, Joplin Police confirmed the woman's death and said an autopsy is being conducted today at Southwest Missouri Forensics in Ozark.

The name of the victim has not been released.







Casey L. Malone, 38, Joplin, pleaded not guilty to a felony domestic assault charge January 22 during his arraignment in Jasper County Circuit Court. His next hearing is scheduled for February 24.

Malone is being held without bond in the Jasper County Jail.

The crime was described in an earlier JPD news release:

On January 18th, 2021 officers with the Joplin Police Department responded to 320 S. Wall Avenue for a report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers located a 63-year-old female victim who was unconscious and had severe injuries to several parts of her body, including a broken arm and head/facial injuries. 

Medical attention was immediately given and the victim was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.
