Federal grand jury indicts Joplin man on meth, weapons charges

A federal grand jury indictment of a Joplin man on meth and weapons charges was unsealed today in U. S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri.

Court records indicate Freddie Joe McAnally, 42, was indicted August 25. It appears the indictment was unsealed once McAnally was arrested when the Ozarks Area Drug Enforcement Team and Jasper County SWAT executed a search warrant Thursday at 13189 Cimarron Road, Carthage.

The Ozarks Drug Enforcement Team news release said McAnally was arrested on "multiple federal and state warrants along with charges for manufacturing a controlled substance, possession with intent to distribute and resisting arrest."

The federal indictment alleges McAnally possessed more than 50 grams of methamphetamine with intent to distribute on December 23, 2019, possessed a weapon while committing that crime and was a felon in possession of a firearm.

In December 2018, Cherokee County, Kansas officials arrested McAnally when they discovered him hiding in an attic while they were executing a search warrant at a home between Riverton and Baxter Springs.

Deputies had already found a meth lab, methamphetamine and two stolen vehicles on the property.

During that incident, McAnally was arrested for manufacturing methamphetamine, unlawful possession of precursor chemicals with intent to manufacture methamphetamine, two counts of felony possession of stolen property, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and interference with law enforcement.
