(From Sen. Bill White, R-Joplin)Senators returned to Jefferson City and got right back to work deliberating bills and considering proposals this week. I presented Senate Concurrent Resolution 1 to members of the Senate Rules Committee on Monday, Feb. 22, a measure that asks the United States Congress to call a convention of states to amend the U.S. Constitution, giving states the authority to repeal a federal rule, regulation, statute, executive order or federal court ruling.
On Tuesday, I presented Senate Bill 369 to the Insurance and Banking Committee to modify a dated law and protect property owners and the valuation of their insured property. The legislation has broad support in the insurance community.
I also introduced Senate Bill 528 to establish the Minutemen of the State. Under this act, the governor may call “Minutemen” into service in defense of the state during a state of emergency with the consent of two-thirds of the General Assembly. Any Missouri resident who can lawfully own firearms may volunteer. Under the legislation, Minutemen supply their own firearms, ammunition and tactical gear. This equipment, required by the state, shall be considered property of the state for purposes of jurisdiction, and is not subjected to any tax, levy, fees, stamp or seizure, nor can it be subject to registration or tracking.

Bill, I knew you were crazy the first time I met you and you have not disappointed me. You are still bat shit crazy. This is the first step toward insurrection and that it is happening in Missouri is not at all surprising. You are going to have a bunch of untrained and undisciplined troops in the field which will probably be facing Federal Troops. This is exactly the way South Carolina started the Civil War. I hope you have state funding for the body bags because you are going to need a lot of them.

The founding fathers thought it was a good idea. So much so that they put it in the bill of rights.
The founding fathers had a different idea than all you militia promoting gun nutters and secessionist fools. Original intent is nothing like what this latest nonsense attempts.

As a veteran, I know how important defense is. I am tired of seeing our national guard being sent out of the state and out of the country. The national guard is for national and state defense, NOT for foreign matters. If we, as Missouri citizens cannot say "no" to the Federal government and keep our national guard HERE where they belong, then YES we need a supplemental defense. I would be in favor of a civilian militia. That is, after all, how our nation began when we had to gain the right to govern our own affairs and form our own nation.
That's strange, I see this as following their "intent" to the letter. I would guess you would also see a different intent in "shall not be infringed".
As a veteran and citizen of Missouri, I know how important defense is. I am tired of seeing our national guard being sent out of the country to serve in areas they were not meant to serve in. If we as citizens cannot tell the Federal government "no", we want our guard to remain in our state, then YES, I would be in favor of a civilian militia. When they send our national guard out of state, that leaves our stated defenseless. Our nation began with a civilian militia.
You are doing the exact opposite of what our founders intended. When did the GOP decide to toss the constitution? Seriously, I keep waiting for you all to turn into cartoons, because you're all that rediculous.
Bill, we have a group of citizen soldiers already. If you would do a little checking of state records, you would find there is a small group called , the Missouri National Guard. And yes these forces have been used entirely to much overseas, the last 30 years or so. There are 11,000 or so guardsmen in the state. We have never deployed enough of our forces that we still would have plenty left here to do any job that is required. As a former guard member who was deployed to help in tornado destruction and other emergencies, I for one would be disgusted to see a Republican militia deployed alongside me. Call me crazy I guess.
