Neosho man found guilty of statutory sodomy, child molestation

(From Newton County Prosecuting Attorney's Office)

A Neosho man was found guilty by a McDonald County jury after a two-day trial on one count of statutory sodomy in the first degree and child molestation in the third degree. Sentencing will be set in April.

Christopher Creviston, 37, was found guilty after hours of deliberation before the jury rendered its verdict to Judge Kevin Selby of the 40th Judicial Circuit on Wednesday, April 12, 2023.

The jury found the defendant not guilty on four other counts of related child sex offenses. The jury subsequently recommended sentences of 25 years and 10 years respectively on each count in the Missouri Department of Corrections.

On the charges for which the defendant was convicted, a 13-year-old victim disclosed that she had awoken to Creviston penetrating the victim's vagina between April and October of 2018. A separate 12-year-old juvenile victim disclosed that Creviston had placed his mouth on the victim's vagina over the victim's clothes in August of 2018. Sentencing is set for June 7, 2023.

"We are satisfied to find justice for the victims in this case," said Newton County Prosecuting Attorney William Lynch. "I'm incredibly proud of the team and these victims and their families for the countless hours of work and preparation they put forward in securing this conviction.

"These cases present a number of hurdles, including an antiquated law requiring us to try so many cases in a separate county. This case was filed the week that I assumed office, so justice has been a long time coming.

"It is clear the jurors carefully weighed the evidence in this case and came to the conclusion that the defendant was guilty. We're thankful to the jury and their service this week," said Assistant Prosecutor Mitchell Cross who first-chaired the trial. Assistant Prosecutor J. D. Hatcher commended the courage of the juvenile victims in coming forward and following through with their testimony to keep our community safe.

This case was investigated by Detective Rodney House of the Neosho Police Department and prosecuted by Mitchell Cross, J. D. Hatcher and William Lynch.

We need to Stop Feeling Sorry for these Criminals and Start Feeling Sorry for their Victims and Lives that they have Ruined.

I Hope our Politicians, Judges, Prosecutors, and Jurors - - Read the above Statement and Understand - - that our Society Cannot Continue to just - Turn a Blind Eye or Give them Reduced Sentences, Probation - - or Feel Sorry for them – These Criminals will most likely Re-Offend and it could be against - You, Your Family, Your Friends - - -

Recidivism is the tendency of a convicted criminal to repeat or reoffend a crime after already receiving punishment or serving their sentence. The term is often used in conjunction with substance abuse as a synonym for “relapse” but is specifically used for criminal behavior. The United States has some of the highest recidivism rates in the world. According to the National Institute of Justice, almost 44% of criminals released return before the first year out of prison. In 2005, about 68% of 405,000 released prisoners were arrested for a new crime within three years, and 77% were arrested within five years.

I went to school with this guy. He always struck me as "off" but I never would have guessed he would do something as vile as this!

I usually say "people make mistakes that's how we learn" however, this is not an acceptable mistake. He changed several innocent lives. I agree with the above comment.
