Arraignment set for Carthage man, 21, who allegedly kicked, punched, choked girlfriend, 14, until she passed out

A Carthage man who allegedly kicked, punched and choked his 14-year-old girlfriend until she passed out, is scheduled to be arraigned 9 a.m. Wednesday in Jasper County Circuit Court.

Jorge Antonio Lopez, 21, Carthage, is charged with second degree assault, tampering with a motor vehicle in the second degree and property damage and is free after posting a $25,000 bond.

According to the probable cause statement, the Jasper County deputy who responded to the call at a rural Webb City residence November 23 noted the girl's right cheek appeared swollen. She told the deputy it hurt badly and she had been "struck in the face multiple times."

The girl also said Lopez told her if she were to contact the police "when he got out of jail he would kill her," the probable cause statement said.

At 3:07 a.m. November 24, Carthage Police Department notified dispatch it had found a car that had been reported stolen with three people at the scene, including Lopez.

When the deputy arrived, he noted the windshield, back window and all side windows were broken. Lopez said everyone in the vehicle was intoxicated, according to the probable cause statement and had started breaking the windows.

A female who was in the car had a different story, saying Lopez had broken all the windows by kicking them in.
