Former Carthage parks director pleads not guilty to stealing, money laundering, date set for preliminary hearing

A 9 a.m. March 1 preliminary hearing has been scheduled in Jasper County Circuit Court for former Carthage parks director Mark Peterson who pleaded not guilty Friday to three counts of stealing and two counts of money laundering.

According to the probable cause statement, Peterson stole more than $140,000 from the city between 2020 and 2022.

Peterson was taking money from the operation of the municipal golf course and depositing it into multiple bank accounts labeled as "Mark Peterson DBA Pete's Pro Shop," the statement said.

Peterson, who had been head professional at the golf course since 1995, replaced retiring Alan Bull as parks director in 2019.

He is represented by Joplin attorney Brian Glades and is free after posting $10,000 bond.

More information from the probable cause statement can be found at the link below.

With the number of individuals that seem to be caught stealing money - from Non Profits / Banks / Businesses - in the Southwest Missouri Area - You would think that these people would realize that they would eventually get caught.

Mark Peterson - Needs to spend time in Jail...

I would Hope that the Judges / Prosecuting Attorneys / and appointed Jurors - would see that these people need Jail Time for their Criminal Acts - and Stop handing out Slaps on the Wrists and Probation for them. Our Public Officials need to do their Jobs - - and Stop being Soft on Criminals - - He has hired - Brian Glades, like his Father Phil Glades - the King of Backroom Deals...

It would be nice if our Elected Officials - Do what they are supposed to do and Prosecute these Criminals and Stop the Deals.

With all do respect Anonymous, although you have an absolute right to your opinion, you should always remember the most important part of our judicial system.
INNOCENT until Proven Guilty.
Until this man has his day in court-try to remember that!
