Seneca woman charged with assaulting boyfriend, kicking police officer in groin

A Seneca woman faces felony charges of domestic assault and resisting arrest in Newton County Circuit Court after allegedly assaulting her boyfriend and kicking a police officer in the groin.

Bond has been set at $10,000 cash or surety for April Dean Stiefel (DOB 1987), who struck her boyfriend across the face with some kind of tool, splitting his lip, according to the probable cause statement.

From the statement:

I made contact with the boyfriend, later identified who was sitting in the bedroom and as I approached the bedroom I observed what looked like blood slung onto the walls as if force had thrown splatter at various angles of various areas.

Making contact with the male, he appeared to be sitting on the bed where a large injury to his upper lip was observed next to a large amount of splatter of blood on the wall near him above the bed.

When asked what happened he advised the two were drinking when it became an argument and he wanted to go to bed. He advised to the effect that April did not like this and struck him in the face with something but he wasn't able to see as it was said to be dark.

The male also advised that when {he} arrived home April was already drunk. · The wound on the male's face appears to have tom through the lip completely, in what appeared to be approximately one inch horizontally (this was without physically manipulating the wound.) The male talked it sounded as if air was passing through the wound.

April was placed in custody and the investigation continued. While April was placed in handcuffs, double locked, and sat in a patrol unit, I began to inspect the home for further blood spatter and a possible weapon/dangerous instrument.

A long sound bar was observed near where April was first seen, this was destroyed in multiple pieces, including two larger pieces. This item also appeared to have a sort of red coloration on a small section of the material. This sound bar and the located parts were later seized for further inspection.

According to the probable cause statement, after Stiefel was placed under arrest, she appeared to have some sort of anxiety issue and when she was placed in the patrol car, she began banging her head against the vehicle.

When {the officer} opened the door, he attempted to prevent her from continuing with the self harm, when she leaned back and kicked him, this strike was said to have struck him in the groin and his gun holster, with enough force to break his tourniquet holder which was secured to a metal frame and additionally secured with zip-ties as later described to me by {the officer}.

April was immediately removed by force from the vehicle, which she attempted to place her foot against the door to resist the extraction. After April was taken to the ground, she was turned to her side. April continued to spontaneous utter her perception of the event and blamed the male for attacking her, implying he had a history of assault involving her. She bantered on to the effect that the male assaulted himself and spread his blood on the walls as if he threw it himself. April argued self defense, but no injuries or advisements of injuries were observed or heard.
