Carthage man a no-show at arraignment for allegedly beating, choking 14-year-old girlfriend, arrest warrant issued

Jasper County Circuit Court Judge Joseph Hensley signed an arrest warrant for Jorge Antonio Lopez, 21, Carthage after he failed to show for his arraignment this morning on charges of second degree assault, tampering with a motor vehicle and property damage.

Bond was set at $1,000 cash only. Court records indicate Lopez was free after posting a $25,000 surety bond.

Lopez allegedly kicked, punched and choked his 14-year-old girlfriend until she passed out, according to the probable cause statement.

How come he isn't being charged with being with a minor?

I had to look this up online. Apparently in Missouri, if they are between the ages of 14 and 20, it’s okay. Once one of the people turns 21, it’s criminal. The crime may have occurred while the offender was still 21. It doesn’t make it any less gross, though.

I read that in Missouri you cannot be a miner until you are 18 because of OSHA regulations.
