Carl Junction man charged with felony resisting arrest after deadly pursuit on Main

A felony resisting arrest by fleeing charge has been filed against a Carl Junction man who drove away from a Joplin police officer who was attempting to take him in on outstanding warrants Wednesday.

According to the probable cause statement, Mark Anthony Young (DOB 1989), who has a hearing scheduled January 3 in Jasper County Circuit Court on a felony domestic assault charge, was told he was under arrest following a traffic stop at the Casey's at 337 S. Main.

He said no and fled in his van. He drove through red lights, drove without lights, and drove through the roundabout twice recklessly. This caused a substantial risk of serious physical injury or death to the motoring public.

He eventually went off-road and then crossed the highway with no lights on. He then crashed his car and ran on foot.

While pursuing the car, I followed the car off the road. this caused damage to my front bumper, right front wheel well cover, window washer fluid tank, and the front-end alignment. The damage is estimated at $700. A more accurate amount will be available at a later date once the work has been completed.

Another Officer's pants were ripped while climbing a fence when Mark ran on foot. The pants are valued at $100.

I wish criminals truly had to pay in full for all the damage they caused. Bring back chain gangs and physical labor. Criminals are let off too easy. I'm happy they are charging him for the uniform pants. 👍
