The idea for legislation allowing people to carry guns in church was not his, Rep. Ben Baker, R-Neosho, says.
It came from local pastors.

Rep. Ben Baker, R-Neosho, who successfully added that amendment last session, said the issue was brought to him by constituents who are pastors.“I was doing my job and introducing legislation that they wanted to address problems that they had seen and that they have experienced in their own parishes,” Baker said.
That provision is included in a bill sponsored by Rep. Adam Schnelting, St. Charles, to allow guns on public transportation. Schnelting sponsored the same bill last year and it was later amended to include Baker's bill allowing guns in churches.

We attend church in Joplin and our pastor carries along with 20% of the congregation. We also provide site security during our services. We don't flaunt it, but we are prepared to protect our friends and neighbors should something ungodly happen.
Just wondering..did he survey the district, or just got a few calls from some of his church friends.
I would suggest Ben needs to start sending out a timely newsletter that mentions what bills he might introduce, where he stands on bills already before him and include a questionnaire allowing his district to offer their opinions. I am not familiar with any efforts on his part to seek the voice of his constituents. Not a bad job if you can get it and it looks like he got it. The 160th district can do better. Let's do it!

You can’t predict when and where crazy happens, I’d suggest we leave it to the congregation of each individual church.
Hey benny, your sponsorship of this crazy legislation is based on fear mongering to further divide the country. Many empirical studies now prove that white nationalist and Bible literalists are more prone to conspiracy believing because they believe that the "evil elitists" are taking over the country. I for one will not attend any church that promotes or encourages a bunch of over rightous gun toting wannabe cowboys to be alterboys of the 2nd amendment militia. SWMO is turning redneck to the core.

Ben needs to finish his 8 years and go back to preaching. Then either Cook or Osborn can run for his position and save Newton County.
