A Carl Junction man pleaded not guilty this morning in Jasper County Circuit Court to a felony domestic assault after he allegedly choked his wife, then held a gun to her head and threatened to kill her Sunday.
Shaun Wayne Huff (DOB 1965) is being held in the Jasper County Jail without bond. A bond reduction hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the probable cause statement, Huff and his wife began arguing and Huff hit her repeatedly with a fly swatter and other items. "{She} tried to escape but learned that Shaun had screwed the back door shut."
Huff choked her in the bedroom and then later followed her into the bathroom.
From the probable cause statement:
He held a handgun to her head and stated, "Today is the day that you're going to die. I will kill you and then take my own life."{She} was able to break free and began running to the door. Shaun tackled her in the front. A struggle ensued and he held the gun to the back of her head. During the struggle, {she} pushed his glasses off his head and a glass pipe fell out of his pocket. {She} said she thought {her} foot was broken. Shaun let {her} up and he sat in the living room. He told her to go to a relative's house, but if they got the police involved he would kill {her}.
As she was leaving, Shaun said, "I wanted us to die together today."
The case was investigated by the Carl Junction Police Department.
