McDonald County R-1 considering move to 4-day week

The McDonald County R-1 School District is considering a move to a 4-day school week. The following message was posted today on the district's Facebook page:

Dear McDonald County School Community,

We believe in fostering an environment where both our students and staff can thrive. In a recent poll among McDonald County School District staff, more than 85% expressed their belief that a 4-day school week could change the rules of the game in recruiting and retaining first-grade educators.
Now it's YOUR turn to share your thoughts!

We value your input and invite you to participate in our community survey focused on the possibility of implementing a 4-day school week.

Your responses will help us better understand the community perspective on this issue and shape the future of McDonald County schools.

The survey is available on the district's Facebook page and website.

This is the wrong direction for Missouri schools. I went to McDonald County and received a terrible education. The county has few childcare options. It has a high domestic violence rate and high food insecurity. What will happen to these kids when they are not in school? It is very concerning. The to recruiting good educators is by paying them good salaries; not taking the easy option of a four day week. Does the superintendent even live in the county? I heard that he does not. If true, shame on him and the board that hires him!
