Lamar man charged with assaulting pregnant woman

The Barton County Prosecuting Attorney's office charged a Lamar man with third degree domestic assault  Monday.

According to the probable cause statement, Tayden Dean Turner (DOB 2007) assaulted a pregnant woman. Turner is free after posting a $10,000 bond.

From the probable cause statement:

The suspect, Tayden Dean Turner was standing in the front doorway with the door open. Mr. Turner was holding his 1-year-old baby in his left hand.

The victim was in the living room crying. I immediately instructed {her} to exit the apartment, where she was contacted by Officer S. Miller who had arrived on scene.

Mr. Turner advised {the victim} had moved in approximately two weeks prior to our time of contact, establishing residency. Ms. McCulloch is 11 weeks pregnant. Mr. Turner advised he had her phone outside and said {she} had slammed the front door causing significant damage to a large piece of sheetrock where the bumper stop to the door handle is located on the wall. I observed the wall to be caved in.

Mr. Turner advised the cops were called when the neighbors saw him and {the victim} outside arguing. Mr. Turner said the little boy had stated to him he had put his hands on {the victim} outside, which is hwne {she} had slammed the door causing the damage.

{The victim} advised Mr. Turner had taken her phone from her, prevening her from being able to call for emergency services. {She} advised she was sitting on the couch in the living room when they were engaged in an argument.

Mr. Turner grabbed {her} and pulled her off the couch to grab a Smith & Wesson .9mm pistol out near where she was sitting.

Once Mr. Turner had the gun, {the victim} pleaded to get her phone back. The incident continued outside where Mr. Turner threatened to throw her phone against the sidewalk. Mr. Turner then pushed {the victim} through the front door, causing her to fall into the door with enough force to put a large hole in the wall.

This resulted in {the victim} landing hard on the ground. {She} was transported to Cox Barton County Hospital to confirm the unborn baby was OK.

I contacted the teenage juvenile who witnessed the assault. Also present was the parent who had called the assault into 911. The juvenile watched Mr. Turner push {the victim} through the door and confronted Mr. Turner, telling him he was not supposed to put his hands on women. The juvenile then ran to the parent, who called 911.

The case was investigated by the Lamar Police Department.
