(From Stotts City Mayor Tracy Knight)Mayor Tracy Knight has announced that the Stotts City Board of Aldermen will hold its upcoming meeting on Friday, July 17, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church Library, the meeting location designated by city ordinance.
The meeting will address several important items concerning the operation and administration of the City of Stotts City, including:
* Appointment of an individual to fill the vacant Board of Aldermen seat.
* Consideration of the City Clerk position.
* Review of the Collector’s Report.
* Budget and financial discussions.
* Banking and financial access matters.
* Other items necessary for the conduct of city business.
* A closed session, as permitted under Missouri law, to discuss personnel matters.
Mayor Knight encourages residents to attend and remain engaged in the decisions affecting their community.
“The future of Stotts City depends on an informed and involved community. I encourage residents to attend, observe the meeting, and remain engaged as we continue working toward greater transparency, accountability, and responsible stewardship of public resources,” said Mayor Tracy Knight.
The meeting agenda is being released concurrently with this announcement and has been posted in accordance with Missouri’s Sunshine Law requirements.
Individuals needing reasonable accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) are encouraged to contact the Mayor or the City Clerk prior to the meeting so appropriate arrangements can be made.

The agenda isn’t even legal. The mayor can’t even figure out how to do the job correctly. Maybe she should read Missouri Statue 610.022
She wants to go after the clerk but can’t figure out how to do things the legal way!
It seems like the mayor has something against city employees and a pompous attitude towards the board. She is the mayor of Stottts City not Jefferson City
I have to disagree. Holding public officials and city employees accountable isn't the same as having something against them. The mayor's job is to ask questions, seek answers, and ensure the city is operating legally and transparently.
She's the Mayor of Stotts City, and the citizens elected her to serve their interests. The focus should be on facts, transparency, and what's best for the community.
The board was also elected by citizens to serve their interests
Unless and until the “Mayor citizens” and the “Board citizens” find some “common ground” and define the “community interest(s)” with some sort of give and take, the process will continue to be them vs us and everybody will be in for a long grind until the next municipal elections

Why is ordinance availability such a issue/problem ??
It appears the following statements apply and are reasonably expected to hold.
"In Missouri fourth-class cities, the City Clerk is the expected and statutory custodian of public records.
Under Section 79.320, RSMo, the city clerk is specifically tasked with safely and properly keeping all records and papers belonging to the city. Furthermore, under the Missouri Sunshine Law (Section 610.023, RSMo), every public governmental body is required to officially appoint a custodian of records.
While the board of aldermen may designate an alternate official to fulfill the duties of the Sunshine Law "gatekeeper", the City Clerk remains the primary and expected custodian of the city's day-to-day administrative documents."
"The Sunshine Law requires that each request for access to a public record be acted upon as soon as possible, and in no event later than the end of the third business day following the date the request is received by the custodian of records of a public governmental body. Mo.Rev.Stat. § 610.023.3. The three-day period for document production may be exceeded for “reasonable cause.” If access to requested public records is not granted within the three-day period, the Sunshine Law requires the custodian to give a detailed explanation of the cause for further delay and the place and earliest time and date that the requested records will be available for inspection."
