Globe editorial; Sprinklers needed at group homes

In an editorial in today's edition, the Joplin Globe Editorial Board says sprinklers are needed at group homes:

But the bottom line has to be the protection of the lives and welfare of those for whom the homes are providing care. Requiring sprinkler systems is a good start. Heat and smoke detectors linked to alarms at the nearest fire station also make sense. We look to the governor and legislators to come up with a reasonable approach that will ensure the safety of these residents.

The sprinkler issue, of course, came to the forefront following the Nov. 27 fire at the Anderson Guest House, in which 11 were killed. The facility was not required by law to have a sprinkler system.
