Governor signs sprinkler bill

Sometimes the tradition of a governor going to various towns in the state to sign legislation can actually be seen as a positive, rather than just a political ploy.
Such was the case Friday when Governor Matt Blunt signed the bill requiring group homes to install sprinklers. The signing took place in Anderson, site of last November's Anderson Guest House fire, in which 11 people were killed:

This legislation is a significant step forward to enhance the safety of our group homes. I believe it will clearly diminish the possibility that an event of this nature could occur again in this state," Blunt told dozens of onlookers Friday after the bill signing at Anderson City Hall.

"Often we have a tragedy and we're always very passionate about responding," the governor said. "But sometimes there's not follow-through. Here we have follow-through."

Anderson Mayor Bob Corcoran said the legislation helped bring closure to a community stunned by the Nov. 27 fire at Anderson Guest House.
