Fiscal conservative Billy Long uses campaign cash to pay for swank D. C. hotel

A disclosure report filed last week with the Federal Election Commission shows Seventh District Congressman Billy Long used campaign cash to pay for several weeks of lodging at a swank Washington D. C. hotel.

According to the documents, Long paid $3,692.58 on Jan. 10 and $2,147.81 on Jan. 31 for lodging at the W Hotel, which describes itself in the following fashion on its website:

"W puts the capital in Washington, D. C., where a policy of pleasure is always executed with legislative luxury."

Revel in the full-serve Bliss Spa and abide by the first 'ahh'mendment of ooh- do we spy a contented sigh."
One of visitors' favorite amenities at  the W is the luxurious W Living Room "where you can open your mind and feel alive while indulging in cocktail caucusing>'

And, of course, there is the Wine Bar which offers "a robust selection of eclectic and sophisticated wines from around the world.

There's even the J & G Steakhouse right on the premises.

The W Hotel was not the only luxury item campaign contributors paid for, according to the FEC report. As noted in the April 13 Turner Report, Long spent $1,333 for "initiation and dues" for the exclusive Capitol Hill Club:

and I hear a bunch of congressman (mostly Democrats) are off on exotic junkets this week and they are using my money...at least he didn't spend taxpayers' money

He spent over $5,000.00 for two nights stay in a hotel. I don't care whose money it is, it is excessive and shows once again when they get to D.C. they lose all sense of reality.

The Budget 8 beds don't fit him.

The Republican leadership would have to approve those exotic junkets, so Anonymous 7:02, maybe you should be complaining to them.

check them out: it's the democrat controlled SENATE

Do you think all of those folks, Mel Hancock et al., believe Billy is wisely spending the campaign contributions he begged for during the campaign, and continuing?

Isn't Billy Long and 'swank', used in the same sentence an oxymoron?Or, is it a bozomoron?

It is the excessiveness of it all. Doesn't really matter where the money comes from. Tax payers or contributors are still being cheated when a person can find decent accommodations much cheaper, even in D.C. For someone to run on a platform of fiscal conservatism and responsibility and stay at this type of hotel is irresponsible and hypocritical. I'm not sure what the restrictions are on the use of such campaign money but if you were allowed to do so you could offer a scholarship in government or public service, make a donation for medical care for a sick constituent, use the money for some higher good and funnel it back to the home district. Put the money back in Missouri.

What about the "excessiveness" of the junkets and the president flying around doing a minimum of "presidential things" but mostly raising political funds...just try being fair once in a while..this is a good subject for discussion but it's a typical "Randy-unfair-discussion" just political and therefore it never makes any difference because everyone sees through his biased politics

This is a blog that for the most part emphasizes southwest Missouri and state politics. Billy Long is our Seventh District Congressman. Why not address the issue that is written about instead of bringing in something that is totally extraneous?

4:54,

That has been done by every president in modern times, both Democrat and Republican. You are the one being unfair. Besides it is his blog, he can say whatever he wants and you have the choice not to read it. However you would be less informed by not doing so.

I agree with Randy, Billy Long is the subject of this blog and Billy is proving himself to be a real ___________ (fill in the blank).

Surely his behavior doesn't come as a surprise to anyone with any intelligence. He is a joke and has been from the start.
I think as he reads these comments, he feels happy that he pulled one over on us. Remember, he is an auctioneer.
Heaven help us.

you "emphasize" southwest Missouri -- until you brag about being on the Huffington Post...they don't give a hoot about southwest missouri...it's southwest missouri until you get a better gig!

Oh Randy---how sad

And who cares about the Huffington Post anyway. It is a joke the same way Turner is. It just goes to show you that you can say whatever you want on a blog to attract controversy and be mistaken with someone with talent.....which Turner is not. I have to laugh every time I see the term "award-winning reporter" when HE attaches it to his name. How about twice-fired, never was a real journalist, and an out-of-a-job-"teacher"......who was fired because he was a terrible classroom teacher. Yet now he wants to complain that he is losing teacher tenure....maybe it is because he will now be let go once again as the administrator who hired him in in the Joplin district was fired and cannot protect him anymore? Hit close to home Turner?

As long as I have intelligent, discerning readers like you, I will consider myself to be a success.

Thank you....but don't flatter yourself into thinking that you are any kind of success...lol.
