Sentencing for former Kanakuk counselor on sex charge postponed until January

The sentencing for former Kanakuk Kamp counselor Lee Bradberry, Auburn, Ala., who pleaded guilty September 13 to sex charges involving underage boys has been rescheduled to 3 p.m. January 17 in Taney County Circuit Court.

The sentencing had originally been scheduled for December 6, but was postponed because the judge had a conflict.

Reportedly, Bradberry will be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison as part of a plea bargain. The details of Bradberry's crime are outlined in this probable cause affidavit from the Taney County Sheriff's Department:

Bradberry is the second Kanakuk employee to plead guilty to sex charges involving underage boys. Former camp director Pete Newman is serving two life sentences. Kanakuk, its CEO Joe White, and Newman are being sued in U. S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas by the family of one of Newman's sexual abuse victims, while another lawsuit was filed against Kanakuk and Newman in Taney County.

Randy, be sure you continue to report on these cases, otherwise there will be reports made in the Branson area.

The court should close this place down.

My previous post should have read: Randy, be sure you continue to report on these cases, otherwise there will be NO reports made in the Branson area. These issues seem to have a way of being silent until the information pops up elsewhere and it can't be ignored.

The court should close this place down.

Anon - The court does not have the power, in a criminal case against the individual employee, to shut anything down except for the abuser's future.
