Missouri's U. S. Senators, Kit Bond and Jim Talent, were among 49 senators Wednesday who voted in favor of the marriage amendment, which would declare that marriage is the union of one man and one woman.
Talent was one of the original co-sponsors for the bill. Constitutional amendments have to pass by a two-thirds majority. The amendment had a slight majority, 49-48, with three senators absent.

Why don't Talent and Bond focus their attention on America's REAL problems:
* An out of control budget deficit
* A dubious war in Iraq
* The draining Social Security trust fund
* The war on terror at home and abroad
* The need for a sensible immigration policy (rather than a "wall" or a moat filled with crocodiles)
* The abuse of citizens' civil rights by an Administration that refuses to obtain warrants before eavesdropping on private conversations
* The price of gasoline and the need for energy independence (rather than billions of dollars in payoffs to the gas barons)
The list goes on and on. The marriage amendment, now failed, is a diversion from our real problems.
Talent and Bond should get to work and quit trying to legislate morality.
