Former Collins mayor bound over for trial

Former Collins Mayor Allen Kauffman waived his preliminary hearing in Cole County Circuit Court and was bound over for trial Friday on a felony charge of sexual misconduct with a child less than 14.
A July 21 arraignment has been scheduled.

Kauffman, 63, who is also a minister, resigned his mayoral position after he was arrested in January in Newton County on three felony counts of enticement of a child after being caught in one of Diamond Police officer Jim Murray's internet sex stings.

A motions hearing is set for 11 a.m. Aug. 8 in the Newton County cases.
