Blunt: Exxon record profits are okay because others are making more money

Seventh District Congressman Roy Blunt, during a C-SPAN interview indicated he is tired of all of the criticism of Exxon's record profits.

Blunt said that Exxon is the top American moneymaker in the oil business and 13 foreign oil companies are making even more money. How this is supposed to make things right, I do not understand. I suppose Blunt is suggesting that as long as the money comes to Americans who own stock in Exxon, there is nothing wrong with these people lining their pockets while most Americans are paying nearly $4 a gallon for gasoline.

Well heaven forbid that Roy should step out of the party line and say that the oil companies are bad. Sounds like it's time for Roy to come home and start having to pay for his $4/gallon gas like the rest of us working stiffs.

Can one of you anti-“big oil” folks answer the following for me:

1. What percentage of profit can a company earn and still be moral?

2. How are my gas expenses going to be lowered by increasing regulations and/or taxes on oil companies (i.e., how do you propose keeping them from passing the increased cost on to me)?
