Excessive heat warning continues for Joplin area through Saturday

...EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT
SATURDAY...

* SHORT TERM TRENDS...TEMPERATURES WERE ALREADY APPROACHING THE
LOWER 90S BETWEEN 9 AND 10 AM. RAPID WARMING WILL CONTINUE
THROUGH LATE MORNING AND EARLY AFTERNOON WITH TEMPERATURES IN
THE UPPER 90S BY NOON.

* TIMING AND AREAS AFFECTED...LOCATIONS NORTHWEST OF A LINE FROM 
POWELL TO GREENFIELD TO IBERIA.

* TEMPERATURE...AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES AND HEAT INDICES WILL 
RANGE FROM 100 TO 105 DEGREES ON A DAILY BASIS.

* IMPACTS...HOT CONDITIONS WILL MAKE PROLONGED OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES DANGEROUS.
THOSE PERFORMING OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES WILL BECOME SUSCEPTIBLE TO
HEAT RELATED ILLNESSES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

TO REDUCE RISK OF HEAT ILLNESS DURING OUTDOOR WORK...THE
OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS
SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED
ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL
AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE IS AN EMERGENCY...CALL 9 1 1.
