Former KOAM reporter promoted to prime KY3 sports position

When I was in my teens and growing up in Newtonia, one of my nightly rituals was watching KY3's sports on the 10 p.m. newscasts with Ned Reynolds.

Reynolds, a Springfield sports institution, has been with KY3 for decades, and will continue to be with the station, but he is giving up the 10 p.m. sports slot to former KOAM reporter Chad Plein.

Reynolds, 70, said June 1 that he was moving out of the night slot but will continue to anchor the 6 p.m. sports news, plus handle a new online project.
Plein, 36, said sports is where his love is — and he’s hoping to crack a joke or two.
“Doing news, I was able to do some of those stories, but when you’re doing death and crime and taxes, you can’t always have fun with it,” Plein said.
Reynolds previously said it was his decision to step aside from the 10 p.m. news. He continues to handle “The Sports Reporters” two-hour radio show, which is broadcast at 9 a.m. on KWTO 98.7 FM.
“I think the replacement is excellent,” Reynolds added. “It’s going to be a change in pace for him from what he’s done.”
