Move over Detroit. The big guns of manufacturing have turned sweet on Missouri – and GM, Ford and even Boeing are opening or expanding factories here.”
That’s what CNN Money said last week when it highlighted Missouri’s rank as one of the Top 10 Entrepreneurial States.

As Governor Nixon likes to say: we’re moving forward, but we’re not done yet.
And the recent gains we’ve seen in the manufacturing sector aren’t happening by accident.
From his first day in office, Gov. Nixon has made it a priority to help advanced manufacturers create new jobs in our state.

The Governor brought Democrats and Republicans together to make Missouri an attractive place to do business – by balancing the budget, holding the line on taxes, protecting the state’s perfect AAA credit rating and making sure Missouri’s workforce is trained and ready to work.
As a result, “Made in Missouri” is making a comeback.
Just look at our state’s auto industry.
Soon after Gov. Nixon took office, concerns were mounting that Ford would close its plant in Claycomo, outside Kansas City – a move that would have cost 4,000 hardworking Missourians their jobs. But Gov. Nixon refused to let that happen. So the Governor brought Democrats and Republicans together to put an aggressive plan in place.
That plan worked.
Instead of shutting down its plant, Ford decided to expand it with a $1 billion investment, which will create 1,600 new jobs. On the other side of the state in Wentzville, outside of St. Louis, General Motors recently broke ground on its $380 million expansion, which will create another 1,660 new jobs.

The next generation of American-made vehicles will be built right here in the Show-Me State – by the hardest working men and women in the country: Missourians.
Do we have more work to do? Yes. But thanks to Gov. Nixon’s tough, independent leadership, we’re moving in the right direction.
As always, thanks for everything you do to support Gov. Nixon and keep Missouri moving forward.
