The Rex Sinquefield plan for reforming education

In the accompanying video, James V. Shuls, a shill for Rex Sinquefield's Show-Me Institute, pushes Sinquefield's anti-public school agenda.

"We need to rethink how we're running and operating our schools," Shuls said. Shuls' (Sinquefield's) recommendations include removing tenure (because all problems in schools are the result of poor teachers), increase use of virtual schools, increase charter schools, and increase class sizes through use of technology.

Shuls accuses public schools of putting trailers where can people see them to promote passage of bond issues. I suppose he suggests hiding them as a suitable alternative.

Public education money is draining our state, Shuls indicates. Of course, his answer (and Sinquefield's) to give parents the option to send students to private schools.

And, of course, Sinquefield has contributed $100,000 to Speaker of the House Tim Jones, $50,000 to President Pro Tem Tom Dempsey, and hundreds of thousands to legislators to buy their support. So expect to see plenty of so-called "reform" legislation during the 2013 legislative session.

Randy,
I am glad to see that you posted my interview with Mike Ferguson.

It is clear we disagree on the best path forward for education in Missouri.

So, let’s avoid the ad hominem attacks and really hash out the issues. I would be delighted to come back to Joplin and engage you in a debate at our alma mater, Missouri Southern State University. Or if you prefer, we could see if the Joplin Globe would be interested in running a point-counterpoint.

Regards,
