The new lawyer for Springfield Pleasant View Coach Craig Michael Wood is not stranger to high profile cases involving the murder of southwest Missouri children.
Wood, 45, Springfield, who is charged with first degree murder, kidnapping, and armed criminal action, in connection with the February 18 death of 10-year-old Hailey Owens of Springfield, dropped his public defender and hired high profile Kansas City lawyer Patrick Berrigan. Berrigan's appearance was filed in Greene County Circuit Court this week.
Berrigan was one of the team of attorneys who kept Terry Cupp, Diamond, from receiving the death penalty two decades ago, for murdering Douglas Ryan Ringler, 8, Carthage, a second grader at Hawthorne Elementary School on December 28, 1993.
Cupp was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole.
