Hearing set Wednesday for former Jasper High School aide on sex charge

The next hearing in the case of a former Jasper High School teacher's aide who allegedly had sex with a student is scheduled for 9:05 a.m. Wednesday before Judge Richard Copeland in Jasper County Circuit Court.

Janice Lorene Rusk, 43, Carthage, who is free on $5,000 bond, faces charges of statutory rape and statutory sodomy.

The allegations against Ms. Rusk, an aide in the special education department at the time of the alleged incident, but who is no longer working at the school, are spelled out in the probable cause statement from Detective Ed Bailey of the Jasper County Sheriff's Department:

The sex acts allegedly took place in December 2013.
