State Auditor: We will audit Joplin R-8 School District

(From State Auditor Thomas Schweich)

State Auditor Tom Schweich announced today that his office will commence an audit of the Joplin School District within the next two weeks: "As I told district officials in 2011, we have always planned to do an audit of the Joplin Schools; and Superintendent C. J. Huff has asked us to do the audit now. By commencing the audit under our general authority to audit school districts, our office will pay the costs associated with the audit.

A petition is no longer necessary."

The city of Joplin is not part of the audit announced today. The state auditor does not have the statutory authority to initiate an audit of the city of Joplin on its own. Therefore, if the citizens of Joplin wish to have a state audit of the city, they will need to submit a valid petition from 1,776 citizens of the city. Alternatively, under Missouri law, the governor could make a formal request for such an audit.

Anyone interested in sharing information about the Joplin School District can call the State Auditor's Hotline at 800-347-8597 or via email at moaudit@auditor.mo.gov

How convenient for Mr Huffy. He probably whined to the state. These people are after me and I have done nothing wrong except save them after the tornado. I built palaces for elementary schools and a beyond state of the art high school with a fancy video board and tvs. I have traveled and explained the plight of our schools to get more sympathy and only was $8,000.00 for speaking. I deserve that money after all I did som much for the citizens of Joplin. I ask you please not look into the salaries of those at the Taj Mahal aka Administration bunker as they earn every penny "for the kids. "

Will Huff's request result in an audit that will be less intensive than the one initiated by Humphreys?

The State probably just didn't want to have to deal with the hot checks and late payments some of the rest of us have had. Easier to just do it themselves.

Somehow this doesn't give me that warm, fuzzy feeling. If the state auditor conducts an audit under their general authority to do so, wouldn't they be able to define the parameters of the audit instead of following the more stringent parameters of a petition audit? Call me cynical but it sounds like CJ cried to one of his "good ole boy" pals at the state level and will, once again, manage to slither away unscathed and be pronounced Hero of Joplin and crowned Example of All Things Good.

Randy: Why haven't you mentioned the $111,111 donation to State Auditor Schweich on May 13 by...

...drumroll...

David Humphreys?

Seems someone has already paid for the audit--the same someone I suggested last week pay for it.

6:44,
Mr. Humphreys IS paying for the audit with his tax dollars just like the rest of every tax paying citizen in the state of MO. However, I bet Mr. Humphrey's paid A LOT into the pot than you did--in both dollars and percentage of income paid!!
