Auction set for sale of Joplin's mall high school

Joplin High School students are scheduled to move into a new high school in late August and by that time we should have a good idea of who the next owner of the mall anchor store that has served as the 11-12 center for the past three years.

The former Shopko store will be auctioned off  beginning at 12 noon July 28 through July 30 through Auction.com with the starting bid set at $350,000.

The 820,524 square foot structure was built in 1986 and has been leased to the Joplin R-8 School District since the summer of 2011, following the May 22, 2011, tornado.

The school district's lease is scheduled to expire at the end of July.

Maybe the district should buy it and put the central office staff in there. They'd be a little crowded, and it would need a remodeling for sure, but they could probably get by.

What a great idea 7:57! All the important folks at Administration could each have a classroom for their office.

There wouldn't be enough offices to go around. There are more administrators than classrooms at the 11/12. And, those walls would have to go all the way to the ceiling, you know. Unlike students trying to learn, administrators must have quiet spaces.

Maybe Bright Futures could set up in the cafeteria and sell to the mall crowd!

They justified sinking nearly 500 grand into the modot building because they couldn't work in cubicles, so I doubt they could use the classrooms. But maybe they could use the think tanks for their private conversations and problem solving.

I'm not sure if retail space is what they need. Nobody's buying what CJ's selling anymore.
