Carol Stark, have you no shame?
Whether she is the one responsible for the new poll on the Joplin Globe website, which asks readers if they want an audit of the Joplin R-8 School District, but leaves the impression that it will cost too much to go through with it, I don't know.
But if the buck stops with the boss, either Stark, the Joplin Globe's editor, or Michael Beatty, the publisher, have to take the blame for what cannot be described as anything but a blatant attempt to get people not to sign the petition audit that was started this week by TAMKO CEO David Humphreys.
If a local petition drive is successful, a state audit of the Joplin School District's finances will be held. Joplin taxpayers will foot the estimated $70,000 to $100,000 cost. Are you in favor of conducting the audit?
If the Joplin Globe had done its job of serving as a watchdog for the taxpayers, an audit of this type would not be necessary.
Instead, the Globe continues to head down a pathway to insignificance. To have this poll on the same day that it ran C. J. Huff's version of the audit on page one making him out to be a major hero and kept David Humphreys' reasons for calling for the audit on an inside page, it bad enough.
But for it to come during the same week that the Globe ran a pitiful excuse for a report on an FBI investigation that covered much space, but revealed no new information and merely served as an excuse to slap Councilman Bill Scearce again for daring to fire former City Manager Mark Rohr, this has to be a new low.
The Globe is no longer the paper of record; it is an embarrassment.

Agreed!! Canceled my subscription over six months ago, waste of paper. Why on earth is the district making such excuses about the audit? If there is nothing to hide I think you would welcome this to set the record straight, and WHY would you cut teachers, how about cutting the overblown administration!!
The Globe is such a shill. What a crock. Any self-respecting reporter would refuse to work there. What few reporters they have left will have the Globe stain on them and find employment elsewhere difficult.
Will never buy another copy.
quit throwing that crap in my yard tired picking it and throwing it in the trash
All my friends have always known-
That the emperor had no clothes-But they bow down to him anyway-
It's better than being alone....
I used to use the globe in the bottom of my parakeets cage. But now he refuses to even crap on it.
Now I have no reason to purchase it.
The Globe has always skewed their poll questions in order to get the political answer they want. This is just their latest antic. The only way to correct the Globe is to stop buying the paper. Since Huff is one of if not the highest paid superintendent in the state, he can well afford a cut in pay. If performance were the standard for salaries at the superintendent level, he would be facing at least a 40% pay cut. Job eliminations and/or pay cuts in the upper administration will more than cover the cost of the audit. I am sick to death of the threats against teachers and support staff. I planned on signing the petition anyway, but this latest tactic just spurred me on.
AGREE! I called them (several times) but I finally got my point across to them ---- I too do not want their crap thrown in my yard. After 3 phone calls and a very one-sided conversation .... On my part ---
