School will not start on time for Joplin High School students.
R-8 officials just announced that the beginning of the school year, which originally had been scheduled for Monday, August 25, will be delayed until Tuesday, September 2, the day after Labor Day because the new high school/Franklin Tech center is not quite ready.
During staff meetings held yesterday, high school teachers told Superintendent C. J. Huff they had concerns for their safety and for the safety of their students and felt that the opening should be pushed back.
Other problems were also taking place, including a teacher who was caught between floors on an elevator.
School will start Monday, August 25, for all Joplin elementary and middle school students.
The beginning of the school year had already been pushed back about 10 days later than usual to allow more time for construction.
More information when it becomes available.
