Things I Am Thinking About, Saturday, August 23

I haven't done this for a while, but some things have been running through my mind that are not long enough for my regular posts, but I do not want a whole string of one or two-paragraph posts. So here goes:

The New Stadium Name- Am I the only one who wonders why they could not come up with a better name than the Dewey Combs Athletic Complex at Junge Field? I have no problems with honoring Dewey Combs, but it sounds awkward and people are going to keep on calling it Junge Stadium.

Coca-Cola Building Appraisal Completed- I heard today that the bank has completed the new appraisal of the Coca-Coca Building. That should mean it is time for Wallace-Bajjali to fork over some money. This should be interesting.

Educational Malpractice- The admission during Tuesday night's Joplin R-8 Board of Education meeting that High School Principal Kerry Sachetta and Executive Director of High School Instruction Jason Cravens had only been working on a plan  on what to do in case the high school was not ready by Monday, August 25, for 48 hours was a shocker. I have since learned that C. J. Huff was exaggerating about the 48 hours. He ordered the Plan B drawn up on Monday morning, which means it could not have been more than 36 hours. When Huff said "There is no Plan B," he wasn't kidding.

Criticism of C. J. Huff Is Not Hurting Our Kids- I am so tired of reading comments on the KZRG, KOAM, and Joplin Globe Facebook pages that insist that if you criticize anything that is happening in the Joplin R-8 School District, you are hurting the kids. I am fairly certain those people are not in the majority, but I guarantee you that the critics of C. J. Huff, wanted the high school to start on time, they wanted the students to have a beautiful high school, and they want the school district to be successful. That being said, they also want taxpayer money to be spent wisely and they want the children to be safe. When you criticize C. J. Huff, you are not hurting children one bit. Some of the people who have been the most vocal critics of C. J. Huff have donated hours upon hours of their time to help the school district. When our high school students return to the classroom, they are not going to care one bit whether anyone is criticizing C. J. Huff and the Board of Education. It will not damage their education one bit. They will see their friends and they will be in classrooms with teachers who care about them. The last thing on their minds is going to be whether C. J. Huff's feelings are hurt.

I work in Joplin. I came in contact with one of the electricians today as he was leaving town. He is union headed to a new job. I said that the high school was a mess. He said "yes it is and if you have kids that go there you will see that it is going to only get worse. That place is horrible".

That scares the crap out of me. What did we as tax payers pay so much money for?

I have a friend who works for Empire. They went to the high school on 8/18/14 to do work in the building. The Empire crew was screamed at by staff and were not allowed to do their job. They left without any work being done. They said that building is a huge mess. No flooring anywhere and huge piles of junk all over. I have heard the exact same thing from teachers that work at the high school. In most people's estimates this building is at least 3+ months from being anywhere near able to be used. It's not Randy Turner who is hurting the district or kids. It's CJ Huffs-a-lot!!!!!!!!!!.
